Have You Thought About Your Workplace Culture? Leisure Areas In The Workplace
12.5 million working days lost due to work-related stress, depression or anxiety in 2016/17 according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Alongside this 526,000 workers suffered from work-related stress, depression or anxiety (new or long-standing) in 2016/17, which is a staggering figure and something employers should be fully aware of.
In order to tackle this epidemic, employers need to be doing everything they can to ensure their workplace culture encourages a positive, friendly and open environment. While there are plenty of activities, benefits and social events which can help create a fantastic workplace culture, the physical environment is just as important a factor to consider.
Encouraging Workplace Collaboration & Socialising
Many studies over the years have indicated a direct correlation between the physical workspace and employee wellbeing; with motivation, collaboration and efficiency all being increased when employees have a positive workspace to learn, work and socialise.
Something that business owners are becoming increasingly aware of is the importance of providing their staff with a ‘social space’ within the office where employees can relax, unwind and be comfortable.
A 2014 study by Boston Consulting Group which surveyed over 200,000 people worldwide found that ‘good relationships with colleagues’ was the second most important factor that employees care about when it comes to job satisfaction, just after ‘appreciation for your work’. For employees to have good relationships with each other, the employer needs to facilitate a social working environment.
At Axis House, we know just how important the workspace is to your employees; whether it’s a comfortable break out area within the office to work collaboratively or a separate leisure area where they can get away from the work for a while and develop personal relationships within the team.
Ensuring Employee Satisfaction With Axis House
We have worked with many of our clients to ensure their office space gives their employees everything they need to work and enjoy themselves, making it a place that employees look forward to being every day; whether it’s the new canteen at Amazon or the leisure area at Hillbrush.
Our clients have seen the positive effects a well-designed workspace can have on their employees and the business as a whole. Charlie Coward, the Commercial Director of Hillbrush, had the following to say about his experience with Axis House:
“I think it’s made the world of difference, our new office. It’s not just fact that it is open and very light, but the type of furniture we have in place really has made a big difference and I think everyone appreciates that.
“It gives certainly a feeling of the business moving in the right direction, but it certainly helps to have the right environment that is able to attract and retain the right quality of staff”.
